Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $333,558)

The New Hampshire Department of Justice (NH DOJ) has identified systemic issues in the tracking of sexual assault kits throughout the state. With these funds, the NH DOJ will hire a program specialist to develop and initiate a tracking program for sexual assault kits, including a website accessible for victims to log-in and see where their kit is in the system. The specialist will work with victims, local police departments, and prosecuting offices to ensure that cases are properly investigated and prosecuted. NH DOJ will work with the Portland Police Department in Oregon to implement Portland's Sexual Assault Management Software (SAMS) in New Hampshire. This SAMS has been successful in Oregon and NH DOJ will be able to fix a systemic problem in the state with its implementation.
