The Oakland Police Department requests funds to improve the delivery of DNA analysis in the laboratory by acquiring one capillary electrophoresis instrument that will replace two antiquated instruments, and incorporate direct DNA male quantitation for screening of biological material in an automated differential digestion process of sexual assault evidence. These two steps together will decrease case turnaround time and increase the total number of case requests completed per year in the laboratory.
