Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $825,510)
The Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory Division (WSP CLD) proposes to renovate an existing space adjacent to the current DNA laboratory in the Vancouver Laboratory to create a new DNA analysis lab that specializes in Sexual Assault Kit (SAK) analysis. This space and specialization is needed due to a 2015 SAK DNA testing lab that mandated broader DNA testing, resulting in a 53% increase in DNA requests from 2014 to 2017. The WSP CLD will use the funds to transform the currently empty space into a high throughput DNA analysis laboratory for SAKs. The WSP CLD has offered a 25% match of funds for this project.
