The Tribal Corrections Capacity Building Training and Technical Assistance Program provides training and technical assistance (TTA) to assist federally recognized Indian tribes in their strategies to strengthen tribal correctional system capacity to enhance public safety and facilitate successful community reintegration efforts. The TTA provider will offer tribal jurisdictions assistance to: (1) plan, implement, or enhance community supervision practices; or (2) plan, implement, or enhance reentry programming strategies for tribal communities. The TTA offered will increase the knowledge of criminal and tribal justice practitioners through in-person training, web-based learning, distance learning using webinars, teleconferences, and developing or revising training curricula; increase a tribal justice agency's ability to solve problems and/or modify policies or practices; and increase the information provided to BJA and the criminal and tribal justice communities.

The National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC) of Fox Valley Technical College in conjunction with its project partners, the Center for Court Innovation Tribal Justice Exchange and the Tribal Judicial Institute of the University of North Dakota School of Law, will assist tribal justice systems with planning, enhancing or developing community correction programs to reduce offender risk over time and reduce violent crime committed by those under supervision. The project partners will design and implement training, technical assistance and web based resources to help tribal probation officers acquire the skills and abilities to improve their professional practices.
