Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $272,275)
The Oregon State Police (OSP), Forensic Services Division (FSD) provides the only scientific, technical and investigative support to the Oregon state criminal justice system through the collection and forensic analysis of evidence. The past few years has seen a decrease in turnaround time and backlogs in the Chemistry and Toxicology units due to a combination of general funds and Coverdell funds to provide overtime for casework and system efficiency improvements. The FY19 Coverdell award will fund overtime to work additional cases to help reduce backlogs and provide more timely results. The funds will also be used for the purchase of a new gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer instrument for the Toxicology unit to increase the sample capacity and efficiency in the unit.
