Puerto Rico DNA Capacity Enhancement Backlog Reduction Program

The Instituto de Ciencias Forenses is the only forensic laboratory in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. They intend to use funds from this award to increase the capacity to work cases, reduce turnaround time, and reduce the number of samples waiting analysis in both the casework and database sections by retaining three additional full time analysts to process DNA evidence samples, fund two technicians, acquire supplies, and fund overtime for existing employees to work DNA cases. The laboratory will also outsource over 5,000 database samples and fund overtime for database related tasks to reduce the database sample backlog.
