Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $325,644)
The Wyoming State Crime Laboratory (WSCL) is facing mounting state budget constraint and continues to experience an ever increasing number of DNA item submissions. The Federal funding from this award will significantly alleviate the burden on the DNA Unit, as well as assists in giving analysts more time and supplies for forensic casework and database analysis by achieving the following goals: 1) Reducing or maintaining the current forensic DNA case backlog through analyst overtime and supply purchases; 2) reducing or maintaining the current forensic DNA database backlog through analyst overtime and supply purchases; 3) Providing ongoing continuing education to the analysts to maintain the knowledge and proficiency from accredited sources; 4) Maintaining critical DNA equipment to ensure uninterrupted service to customer agencies.
