Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $200,000)
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Regional DNA Laboratory (JPRDL) intends to use the funding from this award to achieve the overall laboratory goals of increasing the laboratory capacity and reducing the current backlog. The specific goals of this project are: 1) Remain current with the latest DNA technology; 2) reduce or maintain forensic DNA case turnaround time; 3) increase the throughput of the DNA laboratory; 4) reduce forensic DNA backlogged cases; 5) maintain required laboratory accreditation; and 6) increase knowledge of staff in current and future technologies to enhance the capabilities of the laboratory. The laboratory intends to upgrade software and provide contract services to validate and implement the new software with the laboratory's chemistries and to validate and implement a new methodology.
