Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $384,875)
The Rhode Island Department of Health Forensic Sciences Laboratory (RIDOH-FSL) will use the federal funding from this award to achieve the following goals: 1) Reduce the forensic DNA case backlog by funding one full time Forensic Scientist and one Forensic Scientist at 70% to process DNA casework. Also requested is a newly created, second IT specialist, who will assist with necessary LIMS projects; and 2) Increase the capacity of the laboratory in casework with the purchase of a new AB 3500 CE instrument during year 2 of the federal funding.
