Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $274,101)

The Indian River Crime Laboratory (IRCL) is a regional laboratory that services the 19th Judicial Circuit of Florida. The IRCL intends to use funds for the following objectives: 1) Increase the number of case-working analysts in the unit by supporting one analyst with this funding, using an external vendor for DNA analysis training for the new analyst, and purchasing two computer workstations; 2) Improve the efficiency of communications between the IRCL and the associated submitting agencies and attorneys by acquiring and implementing the LIMS-plus portal; 3) maintain efficiency by providing continuing education opportunities for FBU analysts, update equipment for the Combined DNA Index System, and acquire maintenance for the IRCL’s laboratory information management system (LIMS) and the aforementioned portal; and 4) outsourcing DNA cases.
