Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $280,110)

Mesa Forensic Services is responsible for the collection and examination of evidence from all types of crimes committed within the city of Mesa, Arizona. The laboratory will use funding for the following goals and objectives. Goal 1 is to increase capacity by the specific objectives as follows: a) improve sample collection from porous surfaces by purchase of a wet-vacuum collection device; b) purchasing extraction equipment; c) purchasing a maintenance agreement on the extraction equipment, d) purchase a new CODIS server; e) purchase three thermal cyclers; f) purchase document scanners to improve case documentation. Goal 2 is to reduce the backlog by way of the specific objective of funding overtime for existing analysts to process DNA cases.
