Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $310,305)
The Tucson Police Department Crime Laboratory (TPDCL) has experienced an increase in submissions due, in part, by new policies adopted by the Department and an Arizona state law requiring the submission of sexual assault kits for analysis. These grant funds will be used to increase capacity in the laboratory to mitigate the impact of these increases. The funds will be used to fund a full-time DNA Criminalist position to analyze cases, to outsource DNA cases, and to fund equipment and software which will increase compatibility of instrumentation used by the DNA Unit of the TPDCL, as well as capabilities of the software used to analyze the data from the capillary electrophoresis process while providing more tools for DNA interpretation.
