Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $252,000)
The Baltimore Police Departments Crime Laboratory (BPD-CL) is the agency section responsible for analyzing material evidence associated with criminal investigations for all local law enforcement agencies within the City of Baltimore. The Federal funding from this award will be used for the following goals: 1) Reduce the backlog and improve turnaround through increased sample processing; and 2) improve TrueAllele case processing times. These goals will be achieved through the support of three scientists to work samples and screen cases and the purchase of six servers with improved processors to reduce computing time for each case. The funding will allow the BPD-CL to increase its work capacity by at least 10 percent regarding the average number of Forensic DNA samples analyzed per month, and reduce the average backlog of casework by approximately 15 percent.
