Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $885,000)
Sexual Assault legislation enacted in late 2016 in New York State has resulted in a tremendous increase in sexual assault evidence collection kits submitted to the laboratory. In order to mitigate this influx of submissions, the DNA Casework laboratory is seeking funding for overtime for casework and validation activities, the purchase of instruments and equipment, DNA testing supplies, and software licensing to continue to address backlog and prepare for additional capacity enhancements. The DNA Databank laboratory proposes to support the salary of a Programmer consultant or Information Technology Specialist to assist in driving the design, development, and implementation of an enhanced LIMS system in the DNA Databank. The Databank is also requesting an automated extraction workstation to provide capacity improvements. Both sections are proposing to support a LIMS support coordinator to maximize the record keeping and report preparation functions of the LIMS system as well as keeping production continuous with on-site workstation support.
