Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $50,000)

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory provides forensic DNA testing of biological evidence recovered from criminal investigations in Beaufort County, South Carolina. Funds will be used to purchase support and maintenance contract for the laboratory’s TrueAllele probabilistic genotyping software to ensure continuous operation of the system. Funds will also be used to purchase casework supplies for backlogged cases submitted from Beaufort County agencies. Finally, funds will be used to purchase casework supplies for cases submitted by agencies from outside of Beaufort County, which are not supported by regular funding from the Beaufort County Council.
