Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $250,000)

The Oklahoma City Police Forensic DNA laboratory seeks to enhance capacity through the purchase of laboratory equipment, the purchase of probabilistic genotyping software and validation and casework analyst overtime. Primarily, the focus of this project is to invest in improving and updating the laboratory’s capabilities with complex mixture interpretation and advancements in the field by purchase, validation and implementation of probabilistic genotyping capabilities (STRMix). This is a significant long-term transition. Since the laboratory has already invested heavily in technology upgrades and efficiency in recent years, funds are pursued this year with the goals of maximizing on these upgrades pursuing long term laboratory capabilities to (a) assist in reducing the current backlog of casework, and (b) improving the capacity to handle complex mixture interpretations.
