The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Crime Laboratory (HCSOCL) proposes using this funding to support a 0.6 full time employee to complete validation and quality improvement projects in the laboratory so that casework analysts are not removed from casework to do these validation projects. Additional goals of this proposal include: continuing scientific education for the DNA staff, improve the labs capacity on challenging samples, focusing on the rapidly growing need to recover touch DNA from clothing, weapons and other porous items and obtaining DNA from calcified tissue.
