Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $1,104,843)
The Oregon State Police, Forensic Services Division (FSD) provides scientific, technical and investigative support to the criminal justice system through the forensic analysis of evidence. Employees assigned to the DNA Unit currently occupy three separate office areas within the building; having the DNA employees in three separate areas is inefficient and leads to a higher analytical turnaround time on DNA cases, lowers the first pass yield (the number of cases that are released without needing corrections), and increases the number of incidents (an analyst not following policy or procedure). Without renovations to the existing building, there is no space for the addition of more DNA employees. As part of this DNA CEBR Grant proposal, funds would be used to renovate existing space into one office area for all DNA employees rather than having employees in three separate areas. This would increase efficiency and expand capacity of the laboratory.
