Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $310,427)

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory Forensic Biology Unit (FBU) has three (3) attainable goals at the heart of this proposal in order to increase efficiency, decrease turnaround times, and eliminate the backlog of cases in the FBU. Goal 1 is to validate the robotic liquid handler for automating the differential extraction process for sexual assault evidence. Goal 2 is to validate and implement DNA calling software for use with probabilistic genotyping software. Goal 3 is to outsource DNA cases to reduce the backlog.
