NIJ FY19 DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program - Arizona Department of Public Safety

The Arizona Department of Public Safety's Scientific Analysis Bureau (SAB) proposes to use funding from this award to accomplish the following goals: 1) Support the salaries of two casework and one database lab technicians and one part-time DNA analyst; 2) purchase additional supplies to offset the consistent increase in the submission of evidence for biological examination and increased productivity resulting from process improvements; 3) fund equipment which will automate certain steps of the DNA analysis, allowing DNA analysts more time to work on other aspects of the analytical process and remove a significant bottleneck associated with manual processing; and 4) fund mandatory continuing education/training for both casework and database analysts as required in the FBI’s Quality Assurance Standards manual.
