Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $2,480,000)
The recipient will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) to support the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP). The primary goal of JMHCP is to facilitate cross-system collaboration among the criminal justice, mental health, and substance abuse treatment systems to increase access to mental health and other treatment services for individuals with mental illnesses (MI) or co-occurring mental illness or substance abuse (CMISA). TTA provided to support JMHCP grant-funded jurisdictions promotes officer and public safety through system-wide improvements such as improved information sharing and coordination of system resources for people who are accessing multiple services, including hospital emergency departments, jails, and mental health crisis services. Expert TTA provides project-specific support for justice and treatment professionals, and facilitates communication, cross-system collaboration, and the delivery of support services to justice professionals and treatment and related service providers.
