Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $381,628)

We intend to allocate the grant funds to enhance our mental health counseling services, including the hiring of additional School Social Service Workers to support students who are experiencing a crisis or mental health concerns.

Their is a growing need for mental health support among students. The School Social service workers will provide counseling, conflict resolution, and emotional support, helping students manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

The School Social Service Worker will be the link between social-emotional well-being and academic performance. Social service workers will help create a supportive environment, addressing barriers that might hinder students' ability to learn and succeed.

School social service workers will play a vital role in ensuring that all students, especially those from marginalized communities, have access to resources and support. They will help address issues like bullying, discrimination, and social isolation.

Social service workers will provide support to teachers and staff by helping them manage difficult student behaviors, offering professional development on social and emotional learning, and assisting in creating a positive school climate.

School Social Service workers will also respond to crises, such as family issues, substance abuse, or other emergencies that may impact students' lives and learning.  Social service workers will act as a bridge between the school, families, and the broader community, helping to foster strong relationships and collaborative efforts to support students' overall well-being.
