Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $735,000)

The purpose of the FY 2020 Innovations in Reentry Initiative (IRI): Building System Capacity and Testing Reentry Strategies program is to help jurisdictions assess their reentry system, identify strengths and gaps, and then implement improvements to enhance the effectiveness of their reentry system or to implement or enhance a reentry program to reduce recidivism.

The County of Beaver will use funds to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its jail population and reentry system to determine gaps, implement improvements, and reduce recidivism among a population of medium- and high-risk adult offenders who have experienced substance abuse, mental illness, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The results of the assessment will inform the development and implementation of a reentry program, designed to fill identified gaps.
