Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $1,000,000)

The purpose of the FY 2020 Innovations in Reentry Initiative (IRI): Building System Capacity and Testing Reentry Strategies program is to help jurisdictions assess their reentry system, identify strengths and gaps, and then implement improvements to enhance the effectiveness of their reentry system or to implement or enhance a reentry program to reduce recidivism.

The County of El Paso will use funds to provide a 60- to 90-day holistic, strength-based program titled Project Chance: Jail Reentry Program (Program). The effort will establish improved reentry-related services for medium to high-risk offenders which support successful transitions back into the community. During post-release, the Program will continue to connect these individuals to programming options with the assistance of the Releasing Support Team. The Program will serve approximately 1,150 Med-Max classified offenders, assessed Medium to High risk for recidivating. CA/NCF
