With this solicitation, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will award one cooperative agreement to fund an organization to administer a competitive microgrant program and provide training and technical assistance to agencies working to protect vulnerable people in prisons, jails, and other confinement settings, and to reduce reliance on restrictive or punitive approaches. Vulnerable people include, but are not limited to, those with one or more physical disability, severe/persistent mental illness, or who are LGBTQ+, youthful inmates in adult facilities, blind, deaf, or non-English speaking.
Eligible Applicants:
- Public- and state-controlled institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Private institutions of higher education
- For-profit organizations other than small businesses
- Small businesses
