This toolkit prepared by the U.S. Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) consists of fact sheets and a letter that can be edited and customized with an agency logo and pictures to promote confidence in the available COVID-19 vaccines for officers and community residents.
COVID-19 was the primary cause of death for law enforcement officers in 2020 and 2021. The fact sheets are intended to be shared with a law enforcement agency’s personnel and communities served by law enforcement agencies. They are based on scientific data and research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The fact sheet for law enforcement officers identifies and addresses specific concerns related to their work. The community awareness fact sheet can be shared with community residents to build confidence in the effectiveness of federally approved, medically managed COVID-19 vaccines. There are two versions of both fact sheets. One version contains standard images of individuals, and the other is a customizable version that enables the inclusion of images distinctive to each agency and community. Instructions for customizing the fact sheets are included in the toolkit. The “COVID-19 Fact Sheet for Law Enforcement” can be printed and posted in agency facilities and shared under an agency letterhead and shared through social media, local media outlets, and community events and meetings. Additional actions are suggested for consideration in launching an agency’s vaccine-confidence campaign.
