This document serves as a fact sheet on a grant to support the prevention and reduction of crime, and the enhancement of the criminal justice system, through the Field Initiated: Encouraging Innovation program.

Abstract

This solicitation overview provides grant information and resources for entities that may be interested in funding assistance from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Field Initiated: Encouraging Innovation grant. This grant provides funding to prevent and reduce crime and enhance the criminal justice system through innovative approaches that accelerate justice by identifying, defining, and responding to emerging or chronic crime problems and systematic issues using innovative approaches. The overview notes eligible applicants as belonging to either of two categories: Category 1, which includes state, local, tribal, or regional field tests with a research partnership; or Category 2, which includes national strategies to advance or translate knowledge. Category 1 entities include: city, township, county, state, or special district governments; federally recognized Native American tribal governments; nonprofits regardless of 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education; for-profit organizations other than small businesses; public, private, and state-controlled institutions of higher education; and public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities. Category 2 entities include: public, private, and state-controlled institutions of higher education, including tribal institutions of higher education; public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities; nonprofit organizations, regardless of 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations other than small businesses.
