Body-Worn Camera Funding Announced for Small, Rural, and Tribal Law Enforcement Agencies

In a July 7, 2021, press release, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland highlights the release of $7.65 million in a competitive microgrant solicitation to fund body-worn cameras (BWCs) to any law enforcement department with 50 or fewer full-time sworn personnel, rural agencies, and federally-recognized Tribal agencies.

As stated by Bureau of Justice Assistance Acting Director Kristen Mahoney: "The grant solicitation today will help law enforcement agencies and their communities improve evidentiary outcomes, and enhance the safety of, and improve interactions between, officers and the public."

Applications for funding are to be submitted through the Small, Rural, and Tribal Body-Worn Camera website and the submission deadline is August 31, 2021.
