The leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program provides states, tribes, and local governments with critical funding to support a range of program areas. Learn how JAG funding can be used, discover previous awards made through the program, and find important program resources.

BJA administers the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor, the highest national award for valor by a public safety officer. Public safety officers (firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency services officers) who serve at the federal, state, local, and tribal levels may be nominated for the Medal of Valor.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
