Special Agent in Charge
Robert W. Engel currently serves as the Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) of the Tampa Field Office for the United States Secret Service. He is responsible for all investigative and protective activities in his district. Prior to his relocation to Tampa, FL, Robert was the Deputy Assistant Director in the Office of Investigations in Washington, DC and served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division from 2019 through early 2021.
Robert has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career with the White Plains Police Department in White Plains, NY before joining the United States Secret Service as a Special Agent in 1998. During his career he has served in the New York Field Office, the Forensic Services Division, the Dignitary Protective Division, the Inspection Division, and the Presidential Protective Division.
Mr. Engel is a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He received a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy at the National Defense University. He also received a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology/Psychophysiology from Argosy University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Iona College.
