Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $38,957)

With the award of this project, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office will complete a FY2021 project of outfitting all issued patrol rifles with a Low Powered Variable Optics (LPVO). LPVO’s have risen to a necessity in rural and smaller population urban law enforcement agencies, due to the fact that armed encounters with violent extremists have the ability to move between very close encounters inside of a room, less than 3 yards, to distances ranging up to 500 yards. The necessity for rifle optic magnification is necessary to identify and successfully engage threats. LPVOs allow the Patrol Level deputy to have both near and far aiming capabilities via a turn of a ring, LVPO provide, faster and safer engagement from point blank range, to 500 yards. During FY2021 when the first 14 units were purchased and placed into service. The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office saw an approximately 3% increase on Patrol Rifle qualification scores. The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office has proven that LPVOs increase the capability of the shooter to hit targets at all ranges. LVPOs have also proven themselves across the nation in situations where the threat is moving, presenting a side angle, or using cover and exposing only a limited percentage of engagement area. In these situations, the difficulty level goes up greatly, to the point where traditional iron sights and even holographic red dots optics can become totally insufficient for the required accuracy needed. LPVOs offer the ability to be set at different magnifications on the fly. The requested LPVOs also have etched reticles, therefore if the battery perishes in the LPVO, the reticle will still be present, giving the end users a higher level of self-sustainability Break out cost: Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24 AR-BDC3 $359.99 ea Vortex Pro 30mm Cantilever mount 134.99 ea Shipping $150 To complete the project, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office is requesting a total of 22 units Total request cost= $11,039.56
