Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $407,671)

The Indiana State Police Laboratory maintains a backlog because it receives more cases than can be completed in a high quality, efficient, and effective manner with current staffing, productivity levels, and existing equipment. It is a goal of the Laboratory Division to improve timeliness of case completions. Timeliness has been defined as having a turnaround time of less than 45 days for 90% of case submissions, in addition to maintaining and improving the high quality of forensic services. Overall laboratory submissions have risen from 17,205 in 2010 to 24,517 in 2019 (an increase of over 40%). The increase has been spurred by the increase of drug cases.
