Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $178,110)

United States Attorneys, working with state, local, and tribal law enforcement, are the cornerstone of the law enforcement response to crime in their jurisdictions, and are best positioned to take the leadership role in developing and implementing a crime-reduction program. This includes serving as a convener to ensure coordination among federal, state, local, and tribal agencies, and among existing initiatives and task forces that can help reduce violent crime.
Our efforts are focused inside Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County (“Metro Nashville”). Metro Nashville is, by far, the largest population center within the Middle District of Tennessee and the area that has the largest crime problem compared to other areas within the district. The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) has already established a strong partnership with the primary law enforcement agency in Metro Nashville – the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD). MNPD, which is the largest law enforcement agency in the target area, is responsible for upwards of 95% of the arrests in Metro Nashville, has jurisdiction across the target area and is the most engaged in the areas within which we seek an impact.
