Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $349,946)

The Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) will use grant funds to: (1) provide tailored parenting skill development training to incarcerated mothers and fathers in four IDOC facilities; (2) improve identification of individuals with children during the intake and case planning processes; (3) increase family participation in reentry planning in all facilities; (4) assist children and their caregivers with understanding visitation rules and procedures, as well as to interact with them in an age-appropriate manner in all IDOC facilities; (5) make physical improvements to visitation and programming areas within four IDOC facilities; and (6) evaluate the effects of parent trainings, IDOC staff trainings, and physical improvements. IDOC will also use grant funds to equip classrooms with the ability to stream classes and content and access guest speakers on a wide variety of parenting topics within all IDOC facilities.
