For the Winnemucca Police Department to obtain the 3D Laser Scanner for Enhanced Violent Crime and Accident Reconstruction Analysis for $75,748.95 covering rural jurisdictions in Humboldt County, Pershing County and Lander County, Nevada. It will enhance the ability to investigate and prosecute offenders in violent crimes and fatal traffic crashes in our rural jurisdictions. We have had six homicide in the last four years in Humboldt County, Nevada and have had 42 traffic fatalities in our three local counties in the last five years. All of the towns/jurisdictions serviced in this area have a population under 8,000 and are not within 100 miles to any metropolitan city. The device will be available for use in Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Imlay, Lovelock and McDermitt, Nevada.

This 3D scanner and software will enable officers or detectives to create real time 3D models with accurate scale models of violent crimes and crash scenes in a fraction of the time current methods of measuring and taking photos takes.  It will enhance the ability to investigate and prosecute offenders in violent crimes and fatal traffic crashes in our rural jurisdictions. This reconstruction device will benefit law enforcement, local prosecution, the local community members/victims, and travelers using I-80 and US 95. This area covers about 200 miles of highway/interstate.

The device and software will be used on crimes such as homicides, death investigations, sexual assaults/rape, use of deadly weapon crimes, and accidents with substantial bodily injury or death. In the last 4 years, Humboldt County, Nevada has had six homicides, 62 Rapes, 13 robberies and 364 aggravated assaults. The agencies using the Faro 3D scanner and software will report each use, the type of crime it was used for and whether it was used for prosecution. We are looking to improve relations with the community by providing a higher level of investigation for victims of violent crimes.
