Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $18,327)

This funding will be used to institute a Body-Worn Camera (BWC) program for the Town of North Castle Police Department.  It will cover the initial purchase of 16 body-worn cameras and necessary accessories (charging stations, cables, etc.).  A training program will be instituted as well for all officers in the department in the deployment and use of these cameras, which will integrate with the department's in-car video recorders.  This will allow for enough cameras to be instituted for general patrol use, as well as provide them for officers assigned to special community details.  This will benefit both the department and the citizens of the Town of North Castle by allowing for the quick resolution of any potential citizen complaints, protecting the civil rights of citizens, and allowing greater transparency between the department and the community.
