KEDC Kentucky STOP School Violence Initiative Abstract
The Kentucky STOP School Violence Initiative (KSSVI) is targeted effort to save the lives of
Kentucky youth. The Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC) is requesting
funding to launch KSSVI through an Interconnected Systems Framework that will include socialemotional
learning (SEL) assessments (Terrace Metrics) and training (online option will be
developed) available first to our targeted districts and then to others through the online training
portal. KEDC is an educational service cooperative that represents 67 of Kentucky’s 172 school
districts. KEDC and its targeted five (5) member districts (Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, and
Perry)developed KSSVI through careful consideration of individual district needs and
requirements of the Kentucky School Safety and Resiliency Act (KSSRA). The Kentucky
STOP School Violence Initiative (KSSVI) will use the following combination of tools to
address BJA STOP Category 2.
1. Implement the behavioral health threat assessment tool Terrace Metrics available through
mobile device applications, and web applications, and potential threat notification system for
faculty and administrators; 2. The Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) will provide a
structure and process to integrate Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and
School Mental Health (SMH) within targeted school districts. ; 3. Online ISF professional
development modules with SEL resources and training for participating schools and
dissemination to other state schools in year 3. This combination of interventions will provide
Kentucky school districts with the necessary tools to prevent and school violence and improve
student mental health.
