The City of Deerfield Beach is a coastal community in South Florida that spans 16.3 square miles and has an estimated population of 86,859, according to the U.S. Census. The City is located in Broward County and has contracted law enforcement services from the Broward Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years. The City is committed to improving public safety and works closely with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to identify ways to improve law enforcement services and reduce incidents of crime in the City.
Gunshot related incidents are a threat to the health and safety of Deerfield Beach residents. According to crime statistics from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, in the last 2.5 years there have been over 650 calls dispatched for gunfire related incidents in the City of Deerfield Beach and of that amount only 28% resulted in police reports. The City is requesting funding in the amount of $595,000 to procure the ShotSpotter gunshot detection, alert, and analysis services to support law enforcement responsiveness and reduce crime in the City of Deerfield Beach. The scope of work will involve the installation of network sensors within a 4-square miles coverage area in Deerfield Beach (District 2) to identify, locate and track active gunfire, and alert the Broward Sheriff’s Office-Deerfield Beach District so that law enforcement can effectively respond to and investigate gunfire incidents.
The goal of the proposed project is to utilize gunfire detection services to reduce crime in the City of Deerfield Beach. The project supports the City’s commitment to improve the safety of the Deerfield Beach community, benefiting law enforcement, City residents and visitors. The proposed project will be implemented in partnership with the Broward Sheriff’s Office-Deerfield Beach District.
