Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $350,000)

The Critical Response Command K9 Unit (CRC K9) is endeavoring to strengthen protection, interdiction and disruption capabilities through the procurement of vehicles, training equipment, and additional canine teams.  These canine teams will be trained for kinetic explosive detection.  The newly acquired equipment and canines will build upon and enhance our current canine capabilities.

To maintain our existing capability for kinetic explosive detection, the canine requires daily training for these highly perishable skills.  The CRC K9 Unit training staff must be continually educated in the best methods and practices of training newly acquired canines, as well as conducting maintenance training of current canine teams.  The canines must be capable to be transported and deployed whenever and wherever the potential for bombing attacks exist.

CRC K9 currently deploys twenty-three explosive detection canine teams.  The expected outcome of this project would enhance our ability to provide New York City with additional well trained kinetic explosive detection canine teams, and the ability to deploy those teams rapidly to any large scale event or emerging threat throughout the city.
