Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $250,000)

For over two decades, A New Way of Life Reentry Project (ANWOL) has offered safe homes for women to heal from substance misuse and incarceration. ANWOL currently operates 11 homes in Los Angeles County, California, with capacity to serve up to 83 women, along with their children at any given time.

Through ANWOL’s Safe Homes - Women’s Reentry & Economic Development Initiative, the organization will serve a minimum of 70 women each year.  On average, over eight out of every 10 women served will meet benchmarks identified as necessary to reenter communities after periods of incarceration.

With services provided for less than 1/2 the cost of incarceration, individualized resources include 12-step recovery programs, tech training, personal/family counseling, clean slate/family reunification legal services, comprehensive employment services, access to educational opportunities, and permanent housing -- all designed to reduce recidivism and facilitate self-sufficiency.
