Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $25,000)

The request for funds for the Arkansas City Police Department is being made to assist in the purchase of new body worn cameras.  The department is requesting $25,000 to replace outdated and unsupported body worn camera technology.  The purpose of the project is to maintain a high level of accountability and to offer the best evidence in court proceedings.  The primary activities of the grant initiative will be to purchase and replace old cameras that are malfunctioning.  A camera that is aged and worn becomes less reliable therefore creating issues of not being able to capture critical incidents.  It is imperative for the department to have reliable, working cameras.  The expected outcomes will be seen in having trust that the technology will be reliable and will offer the best evidence of police activity.  The program will provide services to the residents of Arkansas City and those entering into the city limits and surrounding area.  The intended beneficiaries will include the citizens and visitors to the City of Arkansas City and police personnel.
