Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $700,000)
Currently, field personnel of the Rialto Police Department utilize body-worn camera technology from 2016. This outdated technology has posed several issues for personnel. Lower audio and outdated video quality tend to compromise investigations, poor battery life requires changing multiple times per shift, replacement of cables and maintenance can be costly for the department. Lastly, the current mounting system makes it difficult to utilize the cameras in all uniform configurations and has a tendency to break loose and disconnect during physical altercations.
This project will aid in equipping field personal (sworn and non-sworn) with the latest body-worn camera technology. Expenses for this endeavor will also cover maintenance fees, equipment upgrades, warranties, data plans, and cloud storage fees. Upgrading technology is a pivotal piece in the success of progressive policing. The new Axon Body 3 cameras come with an array of enhancements to include; enhanced audio quality, wide-angle lens, which allow for greater video quality (even during low-light situations), improved battery life, a compact rugged design, and various mounting options, which allows use with any uniform configuration.
