Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $400,000)

The City of Lorain Police Department is seeking funding for the LORAIN GANG & GUN VIOLENCE REDUCTION INITATIVE. The Lorain Police Department will be aiming to boost its community policing initiatives by taking a multi prong approach to the Gang and Gun Violence that is plaguing our community. 
    
    1)    The Lorain Police Department will hire one (1) one additional police officer, which in turn will allow for the reassignment of an existing police officers into our Community Policing/Outreach Unit. The officer assigned to the Community Outreach Unit will be provided advanced training with special focus on Community Policing/Outreach, also with additional training on gang/drug interdiction.

    2)    The Lorain Police Department will also bolster our Community Oureach Unit by providing additional overtime availability for officers to work and further their outreach efforts. All working in partnership with our Patrol Impact Team and our Crime Analyst to directly address and respond to the Violent Crimes which are essentially associated in known "Gang" territory. 

    3)    The Lorain Police Department will partner with local mentoring organiziations to conducted approved programs that will provide at risk youths with alternatives to gang participation. 

    4)    Purcshase necessary equipment and Provide advanced training.
