Wake County is adding DNA testing to the forensic services offered by the Raleigh-Wake City/County Bureau of Identification (CCBI) Laboratory. The purpose of grant funds is to purchase scientific instrumentation and equipment for a new DNA Laboratory. CCBI Laboratory staff will identity instrumentation and equipment necessary to outfit the DNA Laboratory, identify vendors from which instrumentation and equipment can be purchased, purchase instrumentation and equipment, setup instrumentation and equipment, validate instrumentation, and create procedures to conduct DNA testing utilizing the purchased instrumentation and equipment.  The DNA Laboratory will fulfill DNA analysis requests from the Wake County Criminal Justice Community in order to more accurately connect individuals with crime scene evidence, better the enforcement of criminal laws in Wake County, and avert wrongful convictions.
