Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $60,000)

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is seeking funding to enhance their less-lethal capabilities.  The award of this grant funding will allow deputies and investigators to have less-lethal equipment.  While Tasers have already been secured through this grant, which has enabled deputies to safely apprehend combative suspects, the second part of our original grant request has been unable to be completed due to vendor supply issues.  As a result, our agency is seeking to expend the remaining $15,256.00 to obtain less-lethal equipment, such as Oleoresin Capsicum Spray, CS Tear Gas Spray, rubber bullets and similar equipment (complete list attached).

This equipment will be utilized during the execution of search warrants when necessary and also in situations where an armed or combative suspect is barricaded in a home or building.

By having this equipment available, law enforcement will be better enabled to apprehend combative suspects in a safer manner.

The equipment, training and utilization will be supervised by Chief Detective Joel Taber, who recently became a certified instructor with ALS Less Lethal Law Enforcement Training.
