Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $145,188)
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has the statutory obligation to carry out the requirements of the sex offender registry and community notification. Currently, Wisconsin has 26,208 registered sex offenders with an average increase of one per calendar day. Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry continues to work toward implementation of the requirements the Adam Walsh Act (AWA), also known as Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Wisconsin is asking for funding to expand the number of workstations for staff that monitors the whereabouts of sex offenders on GPS and issues warrants for arrest, purchase laptops to replace existing desktop computers and telephone headsets. If Wisconsin is awarded funding under the SMART FY 2022 Support for Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program for these initiatives, Wisconsin will have increased community safety, an enhanced collection and sharing of SORNA data and enhance the Sex Offender Registry records management practices.
