Project Abstract

The Central District of Illinois will use Project Safe Neighborhood Federal Fiscal Year 2022 funds to build on current efforts underway throughout four specific jurisdictions in the District for the 12 months beginning October 1, 2022.

Each of the four jurisdictions have convened a multi-disciplinary PSN Strategy Council that is responsible for identifying priority violent crime issues and developing and implementing a locally derived Action Plan for their jurisdictions built on evidence-based focused deterrence strategies. The District’s PSN Task Force provides leadership and project coordination across the four jurisdictions.

Ten percent (10%) of the grant funds will be allocated to Hoyleton Youth and Family Services to serve as the PSN fiscal agent, fifteen percent (15%) of the funding will support project research, forty-five percent (45%) will be allocated to prevention efforts focusing on re-entry and diversion, thirty percent (30%) of the grant funds will be earmarked for PSN enforcement efforts throughout the four jurisdictions to specifically target gang violence in regions with the highest concentrations of gang activity. The law enforcement partner and prevention partners will be selected post award. 

The goal of this project is to leverage existing multi-disciplinary partnerships and research-based initiatives to target prevention and enforcement efforts for individuals at high risk for violent offences. Objectives will include provision of prevention and supportive services to targeted individuals and a reduction in offenses by program participants. This initiative is expected to further strengthen community and law enforcement communication and reduce violent crime.
