PREA Program Abstract

Washington’s Department of Corrections (WADOC) has on-going efforts to comply with all PREA standard elements. Through audit cycles, there are three areas in which focused efforts would aid PREA compliance efforts:

It is recommended that WADOC continues to convert from paper audits to the Department of Justice Online Audit System (OAS) to streamline the audit preparation process and to ensure complete and sustainable document retention.
Implement continuous rolling audits to maximize sustainability and maintenance of PREA program staff and PREA practices
Provide remote and onsite technical assistance for facilities preparing for DOJ audits in the upcoming audit cycle.

WADOC will use a dedicated Correctional Specialist 4 to aid the Director of PREA Services in audit review and analysis, of both individual facility and systemic issues; and in the development of procedures, policies, and systems to ensure that PREA compliance is both continuous and improved.
