Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $125,500)
The Department of Correction and Rehabilitation of Puerto Rico (DCRGPR) is requesting funds to implement the PREA standards by Reinforcing staff capacity for preventing sexual abuse in confinement facilities in Puerto Rico. The DCRGPR is compromised and viable towards complying with National PREA Standards and has been addressing current findings for noncompliance. It is with these funds that the DCRGPR will be able to comply with the PREA standard associated with Training and Education to achieve full compliance and provide a safe and secure environment for all personnel and correctional population. Consequently, it is essential to state that these trainings will be coordinated by the Ramos & Morales Academy. This educational facility is designed to train all personnel working in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) for new recruitment as regular staff. The Ramos & Morales Academy's mission is to develop DCR personnel by providing them with outstanding professional development. Employees will achieve the necessary skills and competencies to effectively perform their primary duties and responsibilities, in accordance with the standards established by the DCR, PREA National Standards 115.31,115.32,115.34 the Federal Court Stipulations and the American Correctional Association (ACA), and in accordance with the Academy's Mission.
