FY 2022 PREA

The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement administers the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) grant funds. Funds are dispersed to the Department of Public Safety             & Corrections.

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, (DPS&C) operates seven adult penal institutions across the State of Louisiana, six male and one female facility. Since the inception of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and the promulgation of the Department of Justice standards, DPS&C has strived to draft compliant regulations, to enter into partnerships to provide mandated services that DPS&C could not provide, to train staff, offenders and visitors of their rights and responsibilities under PREA.
 

The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement certifies that it will comply with the requirements for the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
 

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections seeks to reduce incidence of sexual abuse at all seven (7) institutions and to bring about successful prosecution in substantiated cases.
 

This endeavor can be assisted by providing technology resources and training to offenders and staff at DPS&C facilities that will allow them to monitor activity as well as conduct precise investigations within the facility.

DPS&C will audit facilities for compliance with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act. This includes a full audit of applicable standards and any corrective action plans, if necessary. If improvement is needed, facilities will work with the Auditor on a corrective action plan to gain compliance; the Auditor will work with the PREA coordinator and facility PREA compliance managers to complete these tasks.
